Guidelines for Progressive Wage Policy expected to be ready by May, says Rafizi

PETALING JAYA: Guidelines for the Progressive Wage Policy are expected to be ready by May this year, says Rafizi Ramli.

Subsequently, the Progressive Wage Policy would commence with a pilot project between June to August this year, the Economy Minister said.

"Some RM50mil has also been allocated to carry out the pilot project, which includes paying incentives to companies that partake in the Progressive Wage Policy," he said in a written Parliamentary reply on Friday (March 15).

Rafizi added that a cross-ministry and agency effort would be taken to ensure the pilot project runs smoothly.

"Four task forces have been established and are currently carrying out works to refine the implementation mechanism of the policy," he said.

The task forces would be responsible for preparing guidelines on the yearly wage increments, developing the enrolment system and companies selected to partake in the Progressive Wage Policy, and also developing the training modules as well as upskilling.

Rafizi said the taskforce responsible for upskilling and productivity, would be led by HRD Corporation, adding that it was currently preparing training modules aligned with the needs of micro, small and medium enterprises.

He said companies that partook in the Progressive Wage Policy will be given cash incentives by the government.

Rafizi was responding to a question by Tan Hong Pin (PH-Bakri) who asked whether the government had prepared guidelines on the progressive wage model and its pilot project.
