Former corporal claims trial to molesting male soldier


MELAKA: A former army corporal claimed trial to 17 counts of allegedly outraging the modesty of a male soldier and also injuring him.

The plea of Mohd Amanah Habhijullah, 36, was recorded before magistrate Sharda Shienha Mohd Suleiman in Ayer Keroh yesterday.

For the first 15 charges, the accused was alleged to have forcefully outraged the modesty of the 20-year-old.

The alleged offences took place on the second floor of the bachelor’s room, Villa Kesatria, 73, at the Terendak Camp in Sungai Udang, Melaka Tengah district, from midnight to 6am between Aug 25, 2023 and Oct 14, 2023.

The charges were framed under Section 354 of the Penal Code which carries up to 10 years’ jail, a fine, whipping, or any of the two punishments upon conviction.

The accused was also hit with two counts of allegedly injuring the soldier at the same location between 2am on Oct 15, 2023 and 3pm on Oct 16, 2023, under Section 323 of the Penal Code which carries a two-year jail term upon conviction.

The DPP was Nor Asnini Kamarudin while the accused was represented by lawyer S. Daniel.

The court granted bail of RM9,000 on all 15 charges and RM1,000 for each of the two other charges, and imposed an additional condition that the two sureties must be locals residing in Melaka.

Mohd Amanah was also ordered to report to the nearest police station every month until the disposal of the case.
