Teen biker seen performing wheelies on NSE detained in Penang


KUALA LUMPUR: An 18-year-old boy who was caught on camera performing wheelies on a busy highway has been detained, say police.

Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) director Comm Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri said the incident occurred at the North-South Expressway (NSE) on Oct 2, 2023.

A video of him performing stunts went viral on social media.

"We managed to track down the suspect and arrested him at 7.15pm in Seberang Prai Utara, Penang on Saturday (March 16).

"The suspect said that he was travelling from Sungai Petani to Butterworth and his friend recorded the stunts" he said in a statement on Sunday (March 17).

Comm Mohd Azman said the case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving.

"It carries a jail term of up to five years imprisonment and a fine of between RM5,000 and RM15,000 upon conviction. We will take stern action against those who break traffic laws and endanger other road users," he said.
