PETALING JAYA: As the deadline for the Central Database Hub nears, youngsters are trying to get their parents and relatives to update their profiles, but it is posing challenges. The last date to update profiles on Padu is March 31.

Mawar Ruzli, for instance, said she planned to register and update her parents’ profile soon after trying to sign in online. She tried 10 times, but at every attempt she was unsuccessful.

Mawar said she was unable to get confirmation status after keying in her mother’s details based on the Electronic Know-Your-Customer (e-KYC) requirement.

“This is the part where the system requires your IC details and needs a photo of my mother,” she pointed out.

“I did the same steps for my father, and his was successful. But not when it came my mother’s turn,” said the 41-year-old.

“I am frustrated. I have sought assistance via the helpdesk line, but it has still been unsuccessful,” Mawar said.

On Jan 3, Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli said Malaysians who wanted to register their Padu accounts could update their profiles without going through the e-KYC, a process, he said, could only be implemented after the profile update had been done and the user wanted to validate and verify the profile.

Even though it is easier to register and update online, Mawar said the next move was to find the nearest Padu counter in her hometown of Johor Baru before the month ends.

“I prefer to do it online, as I do not want to bother my mother much,” she said.

Another private sector worker, Khoo, said she had yet to complete her registration despite filling out certain sections listed in the form.

“I’m still figuring out how to fill out the section on salaries, as it differs monthly based on my shifts,” she said.

Khoo said she would be heading to her state assemblyman’s service centre to help her complete the registrations.

“We don’t want to miss out on any subsidies if applicable, as every bit of savings counts,” said the 29-year-old from Petaling Jaya.

Student Alya Saiful said she had yet to register and update her details, as she was under the impression it was only for working adults.

“I knew of Padu via social media but did not really pay attention. Since it is for those above 18, I might go and log in to see if I am eligible to update my profile,” said the 21-year-old.

“Right now, I am listed as a dependent. It is good to see if I am able to have my own profile since I am planning to take a part-time job soon,” the Klang resident said.

V. Ramia, 32, a content writer from Penang, said that she had yet to update her records and would get it done before the deadline.

“I didn’t want to join the mad traffic on the site. And I would also do my parents along with mine,” she said.

Asked if it was a good system, Ramia said that it was because the country needed a centralised system that would link data from all agencies.

“My only concern is how well and efficiently the system would be and if there would be any leakages. I am also concerned about data leakages,” she said.

According to the Padu website, it reminded users having difficulties registering due to e-KYC issues by ensuring that the identification cards (IC) captured were clear and visible when uploaded.

If users are still facing issues, Padu recommends that they visit its nearest counter.
