Two motorcyclists nabbed for using fake number plates

AMPANG: Two men have been detained after their motorcycles were found to have fake number plates during an operation in Bukit Ampang.

Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Azam Ismail said the operation codenamed Ops Samseng Jalanan was conducted by 15 Traffic Investigation and Enforcement division personnel from the district at 10pm on Saturday (March 16).

"Upon inspecting their motorcycles, we found that the number plates belonged to cars.

"The men were detained and brought to headquarters for further action. We are investigating under Section 108 of the Road Transport Act 1987," he said in a statement on Monday (March 18).

ACP Mohd Azam said a total of 47 traffic summonses were issued, including driving without a licence and expired road tax.

"A total of 10 vehicles were seized for illegal modifications," he said.

Bukit Ampang was chosen as the site for the operation as it is a gathering point for teenagers who take part in illegal activities such as motorcycle stunts, he said.

"We will continue such operations to curb illegal activities involving the younger generation," he said.
