Robber targeting women with jewellery nabbed

SEREMBAN: Riding on a motorcycle around the neighbourhoods on the pretext of selling milk, a man’s main task was to look out for easy prey.

Once he set his eyes on the target, especially women wearing jewellery, he would approach and rob them off their valuables.

The man was so brazen that he had used the same tactic in four states, but his luck ran out on Sunday when a police team arrested him in an operation in Puchong, Selangor.

Negri Sembilan police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yussof said police believed nine robbery cases, involving some RM150,000 in losses, had been solved following the arrest of the man, in his 40s.

He said two of the cases took place in the states while another was reported in Kedah, and three each in Perak and Penang.

“The suspect’s modus operandi was to disguise as a milkman and went from house to house on a motorcycle to sell milk.

“His victims were usually housewives who had jewellery on,” he said, adding that the suspect, who was detained at his house, had been active since mid-last year.

DCP Ahmad Dzaffir said a special operation was planned following two reports lodged separately in Seremban and Nilai.

He said following the arrest, police also seized from the suspect five identity cards and a driving licence, believed to belong to robbery victims.

“We also seized a motorcycle and two mobile phones from the suspect,” he said, adding a seven-day remand order had been obtained to detain the suspect for further investigation.

DCP Ahmad Dzaffir said the suspect has a record for 19 criminal and drug-related offences.
