PETALING JAYA: The founder of KK Super Mart was among eight people who had their statements recorded by Bukit Aman over the sale of socks bearing the word “Allah”.
The Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) said the convenience store’s owner and seven others were among those who had their statements recorded as at 12.30pm on Tuesday.
“As many as eight were called in and had their statements recorded.
“Other witnesses related to the investigations will be called in to assist,” the department said when contacted.
Bukit Aman CID said that so far, 80 reports have been lodged after the store chain discovered that a few of its branches had been unknowingly selling the socks, which came from a vendor in Johor.
The department said that preliminary investigations revealed that the vendor involved was operating in the Batu Pahat district.
Bukit Aman CID director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain had earlier said that the case is being handled by the Special Investigation Unit and Legal Division.
Investigations are being conducted under Section 298A of the Penal Code for causing disharmony, disunity or feelings of enmity, hatred or ill-will, or prejudicing the maintenance of harmony or unity, on grounds of religion, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for misusing network facilities.
Police said the probe against KK Super Mart will go on despite the convenience store chain’s public apology.
KK Super Mart’s management, during a press conference last Saturday, had apologised for its oversight in selling the socks.
