MPBP revokes business licence of vendor embroiled in socks controversy

BATU PAHAT: The Batu Pahat Municipal Council (MPBP) has revoked the business licence of Xin Jian Chang Sdn Bhd, the supplier embroiled in the socks controversy.

The council issued a notice to revoke the company’s licence and instructed it to cease operations, it said in a statement.

Council president Ezahar Abu Sairin served the notice to Xin Jian Chang director Soh Hui San at Menara MPBP, saying that its activities had gone against its licensing terms.

“The council’s action is in accordance with MPBP’s by-laws governing trade, business and industrial licensing,” it added.

The council’s chief whip and councillors were also present during the serving of the notice.

On Wednesday, the company had put up a banner at the front gate of its factory in Sri Gading here, displaying an apology message.

There were no signs of activity within the premises, which does packaging and distribution of goods.

The banner stated that the company sincerely apologises for its unintended mistake that led to the sock issue.

This comes after the management issued an apology statement on Tuesday (March 19) following the controversy.
