PETALING JAYA: They appeared to be a perfect match.
He was a talented up-and-coming photographer, and she was an alluring model, and both were said to be in a romantic relationship.
But the magic that both V. Gawsigan, 26, and A. Tamilselvi, 26, appeared to share came to an abrupt end last week.
Tamilselvi, a former medical student, had allegedly killed Gawsigan out of jealousy, as she believed that he had cheated on her, said the Kuala Langat police upon her arrest on the same day of the incident.
Yesterday, Tamilselvi was charged at the Telok Datok Magistrate’s Court for allegedly murdering her boyfriend.
Looking dejected and downcast, the lithe model, dressed in purple police lock-up garb, acknowledged that she understood the charge levelled against her when it was read to her before magistrate Maslinda Selamat.
There was no recorded plea.
According to the facts of the case, Tamilselvi had allegedly committed the crime in Rimbayu Perennia at Jalan Flora 3D/6, Teluk Panglima Garang, Kuala Langat, around 5.30am on March 11.
She was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, and if found guilty, faces the death penalty.
Tamilselvi’s lawyer Ethan Tan said his client was suffering from bipolar disorder (BPD) and had trouble recalling incidents on the day in question.
He added that the accused also suffered from a heart ailment and required a medical device to regulate her heartbeat.
Tan requested for Tamilselvi to be referred to a hospital to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.
DPP Khadijah Amir Hamzah, who did not offer any bail as the offence was non-bailable, informed the court that no documentation supporting the claim of BPD or heart disease had been submitted by the defence.
After listening to the arguments, Maslinda rejected the application and ordered Tan to produce documents pertaining to the mental and physical health of the accused at the next mention date, April 25.
She ordered the toxicology, post-mortem, chemical and medical reports to also be produced on that date.
