KUALA LUMPUR: A senior police officer from the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters has been detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for allegedly taking bribes.
The officer had allegedly taken bribes to avoid taking action against certain illegal activities.

Sources revealed that the corruption watchdog also seized more than RM1mil in cash from several properties allegedly linked to the police officer.
Messages on Telegram claimed that investigators had seized over RM2.5mil in cash from a safe house at a luxury condominium in Kuala Lumpur.
The message also claimed that over RM4mil worth of property had been found.

When contacted, MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed the arrest and added that MACC is investigating the case.
He said, "We have obtained a three-day remand order on the suspect to facilitate further investigations into this case."
Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid, when contacted, said he was aware of one of his officer's arrests.
"We will wait for the MACC to conclude its investigation into these allegations and proceed from there," he said.
