KUALA LUMPUR: The police's Criminal Investigation Department (CID) achieved nearly a 95% arrest rate last year.
Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said this arrest rate was achieved through 52,444 indexed crime cases recorded last year.
"CID achieved a 94.74% arrest rate, while resolving 80.29% of investigation papers and 58.71% charge rate on investigation papers.
"In drug eradication efforts, the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) busted 273 syndicates and arrested 908 individuals nationwide while also making seizures worth RM482.95mil throughout 2023," he said in his Police Day speech on Monday (March 25) at the Police Training Centre (Pulapol).
He added that 179,865 arrests involving 158,493 cases were made by the NCID in accordance with the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, the Poisons Act 1952 and the Drug Addicts (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983.
Also present at the event was Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Chief Justice Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat with her husband, Datuk Zamani Ibrahim, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and Chief Secretary Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali.
Razarudin said that a total of 18,221 operations were conducted by the Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) which led to the arrest of 22,911 individuals for various commercial crime cases last year.
He said the Internal Security and Public Order Department (KDNKA) also mobilized all its elements in various integrated operations, especially involving national border control.
"A total of 5,646 arrests were made with a total seizure value of RM979.89mil through 7,355 cases reported throughout 2023.
"A total of 1,395 smuggling cases were recorded and 1,364 people were arrested for various offences, including smuggling while seizures worth RM508.76mil were made last year," he said.
