Cops nab duo and seize drugs worth RM394,000 in Kuching

KUCHING: Police have seized drugs worth RM394,000 and arrested two suspects in a raid on an apartment here, says Sarawak police commissioner Comm Datuk Mancha Ata.

He said 11.9kg of methamphetamine and 66g of ketamine were seized in the operation last Friday (March 22), as well as a car, gold necklace and designer bag worth RM62,345 in total.

Police also seized equipment used to refine the drugs, he told a press conference at state police headquarters here on Monday (March 25).

"Initial investigations found that the syndicate has been active since 2022. The drugs were obtained from Peninsular Malaysia for distribution in Kuching and nearby districts," he said.

Comm Mancha said the suspects, aged 26 and 29, had been remanded for seven days until March 30 to facilitate investigation into the case under Section 39B(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act which provides the death sentence.

He said the 29-year-old suspect tested positive for methamphetamine and ketamine and had a previous record of drug offences.

Comm Mancha also said Sarawak police had seized various drugs worth RM9.2mil from Jan 1 to March 24 this year.

He said 2,887 suspects were arrested for narcotics offences during this period, including 169 for trafficking.
