PETALING JAYA: The Election Commission will meet on April 4 to discuss the by-election for the Kuala Kubu Baharu state seat.
This is after it received an official notification from the Selangor state legislative assembly speaker, Lau Weng San, about the vacant seat following the death of its incumbent, Lee Kee Hiong.
“As provided under the Selangor State Constitution 1959, Chapter 5 Clause (5) Article LXX, the vacant seat must be filled within 60 days from the date the vacancy occurs and confirmed by the EC.
“Accordingly, a Special By-Election Meeting (PRK) for the N.06 Kuala Kubu Baharu, Selangor, will be held on April 4,” said EC secretary Datuk Ikmalrudin Ishak on Tuesday (March 26).
The meeting, which would be chaired by EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Salleh, would decide the important dates of the by-election.
This includes the date of the Writ of Election, Candidate Nomination Day, Polling Day, the Voters' Registers that would be used, and other preparations to carry out the election, which would be discussed and decided upon.
Last Thursday (March 21), Lee passed away at age 58 after a long battle with cancer.
