Labuan man faces seven charges of raping niece

KOTA KINABALU: A local man was slapped with seven charges of raping his niece last year.

However, no plea was recorded from the 52-year-old man, who works with a private company, at the Labuan Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday (March 26).

The man was accused of committing the crime at a house in Labuan between May and November last year.

The niece was 15 at the time.

The charges were framed under Section 376 of the Penal Code which provides for up to 20 years in jail and whipping on conviction.

The case was handled by prosecuting officer Asst Supt Hasnan Abidin.

Magistrate Kasfurrahman Abang Ahmad subsequently fixed April 22 for the next mention of the case and also ordered for the accused to be placed in the Kepayan prisons in Sabah until the hearing.
