PETALING JAYA: Further interactions between Malaysia and China will strengthen collaboration and mutual understanding between both countries, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
The MCA president made the comment following the hosting of the Silk Road and Asian Civilisation Forum in Kuala Lumpur yesterday, calling it a platform to boost bilateral ties.
“The Silk Road has been a symbol of peace and cooperation in terms of economic, cultural, political and religious interactions between the East and West for centuries,” he said in a Facebook post on the same day.
Dr Wee said he was honoured by an invitation to the forum officiated by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof and attended by Communist Party of China International Liaison Department Minister Liu Jianchao. He commended the Malaysia Friends of Silk Road Club for organising the event, along with its strategic partners – the Malaysia-China Friendship Association, China Enterprises Chamber of Commerce in Malaysia and Federal Territories Youth Council – with the support of the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry and Chinese Embassy.
Earlier yesterday, Dr Wee also met with Liu during a courtesy visit on the invitation of the Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia Ouyang Yujing.
“After my courtesy visit to Liu with other MCA leaders in Beijing in March last year, today again I had the pleasure of meeting him and other Chinese leaders in Kuala Lumpur.
“My appreciation goes to Ouyang Yujing and his wife for their invitation to the luncheon at their official residence this afternoon,” he said.
Dr Wee pledged to continue working to strengthen Malaysia’s ties with China for this year’s 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations.
“MCA will work with the International Liaison Department to promote activities and programmes that will improve bilateral ties and benefit the people of both countries,” he said.
In the post, Dr Wee also noted the presence of Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing and Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Chang Lih Kang at the luncheon.
