KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman is investigating the motive of an Israeli man who was recently detained with firearms and bullets.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said Bukit Aman, through the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), is investigating the case from all angles.
"Why does the suspect need that many pistols and bullets? He claimed to have come to Malaysia to kill another Israeli citizen over a personal dispute, but is it true?
"For the time being, our investigation is focused on the suspect's motive. We are also not ruling out the possibility that the suspect has another agenda, such as targeting the country's leaders and other prominent individuals.
"This is the main gist of our investigation," he said when contacted on Saturday (March 30).
The IGP confirmed that a married couple was detained at a Ramadan Bazaar in Kuala Selangor on Friday (March 29) for supplying the six pistols to the Israeli suspect.
"We believe the couple obtained the pistols from a neighbouring country before selling them to the suspect using cryptocurrency.
"Both suspects, aged 42 and 40, will be remanded.
"We are also investigating why the couple possessed another pistol," he said.
Overall, a total of seven pistols were seized.
On March 27, a 36-year-old Israeli man was arrested at a hotel in Jalan Ampang. In his possession were six pistols and 200 bullets. The pistols included a Sig Sauer, two Glocks and a Smith & Wesson.
Razarudin said during interrogation, where the suspect told the police that he came to Malaysia to assassinate a fellow Israeli over a family dispute
