NSE widening project to be extended to Ayer Hitam exit, says Ahmad Maslan

ISKANDAR PUTERI: The widening of the North-South Expressway from four lanes to six lanes will be extended to the Ayer Hitam exit, says Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan.

The Deputy Works Minister previously said that the plan to widen the expressway from Sedenak to Simpang Renggam would cost RM931mil.

“However, after carrying out a value assessment on the project, we found that we can add 17km more into the widening project, making it 37km in total with the same cost.

“We already announced RM525mil for the lane widening project along the North-South Expressway between North Senai and Sedenak.

“I would like to inform you that the RM931mil expressway widening project from Sedenak would not only reach Simpang Renggam but also Ayer Hitam,” he added.

Ahmad, who is also Pontian MP, said this after visiting the Johor Works Department office in Gelang Patah town here on Sunday (March 31).

He also said that the road widening project would begin later this year.

On Oct 12 last year, the Federal Government agreed to extend the expressway expansion project from Sedenak to Simpang Renggam.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, during the 2024 Budget presentation, said the highway expansion project in Johor would be developed with an allocation cost of RM931mil.

Motorists heading south from Kuala Lumpur to Ayer Keroh in Melaka get a six- to eight-lane dual carriageway, but their path narrows to four lanes on the entire stretch of the expressway in Johor.

The widening of the lane along the expressway is expected to overcome traffic congestion, which is a problem for road users using the route, especially on weekends and public holidays.
