Parking to be fully digitalised in Iskandar Puteri from Jan 2025, says mayor

ISKANDAR PUTERI: Vehicles owners have until the end of the year to use their parking coupon within the Iskandar Puteri City Council (MBIP) parking lots.

MBIP mayor Datuk Mohd Haffiz Ahmad said the parking system would be fully digitalised starting from Jan 1, 2025, involving 32,205 parking lots at 227 roads.

"The trial run for the new parking system starts tomorrow (April 1), for vehicle owners to familiarise themselves with the Parkmax@MBIP," he told reporters at the pre-launch of the smart parking app Parkmax@MBIP at Menara MBIP in Medini Sentral.

He said when the trial run ends on April 30, vehicle owners will have to start paying their parking charges using the app from May 1, 2024.

Mohd Haffiz said in the meantime, vehicle owners could still use their physical parking coupons for vehicles parked within the parking lots until Dec 31, 2024.

He said seven months from May 1, 2024, were enough for vehicle owners to finish using their parking coupons.

Mohd Haffiz also advised Singaporeans to start using the parking app when parking their vehicles in parking lots under the MBIP jurisdiction.

"Apart from parking charges, vehicle owners could also use the app to pay for their parking summonses," said Mohd Haffiz.

Meanwhile, Southmax Sdn Bhd general manager Zainuddin Abdul Samad said the one-month trial will give the company time to address glitches or shortcomings on the parking app.

"We hope to rectify the problems, if any, within the one-month period," he said, adding that the company’s other smart parking apps used elsewhere did not face major glitches during the trial run.

Separately, Mohd Haffiz said MBIP has yet to get the list of names of its new councillors from the Johor government although their term ends effective April 1, 2024.

"Hopefully, we can get the list by today (March 31)," he said.
