Elderly woman dies after ramming car into gate of Lahad Datu house

KOTA KINABALU: An elderly woman died after she supposedly rammed her car into a residential gate in the Lahad Datu district on Sunday (March 31).

The 70-year-old is believed to have lost control of her vehicle, and crashed into the gate and a parked car at Taman Gabungan.

Lahad Datu OCPD Asst Comm Dr Rohan Shah Ahmad said based on initial information, the victim had rammed into the gate and a parked car at around 1.30pm Sunday.

“The victim was pronounced dead at the scene,” he said in a statement Monday (April 1).

He said the body was taken to the hospital where blood samples were retrieved to find out the cause of the accident.

“A post-mortem is being conducted to find out the cause of death,” said ACP Rohan.

ACP Rohan said the case is being investigated under the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death due to reckless and dangerous driving.

He urged those with information on this case to come forward or contact investigating officer Insp Mohamad Humaidi Harun at 089-881 255 (ext 414) to help in the investigation.

The cop also advised drivers to be alert of their health conditions before getting behind the wheel.
