Penang Bridge International Marathon to start in Batu Kawan and cross second Penang Bridge

GEORGE TOWN: The upcoming Penang Bridge International Marathon (PBIM) is expected to take place on Dec 15.

This year, the event dubbed Aspen-Klippa Penang Bridge International Marathon 2024, will be held in Aspen Vision City in Batu Kawan and see runners crossing the Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Bridge.

There would be three categories, namely full marathon (42km), half marathon (21km) and 10km.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said 30,000 runners are expected to take part this year.

"This ambitious objective reflects our commitment to expand the reach and impact of the marathon.

"For the first time in PBIM history, the marathon will kick off on the mainland, symbolising our dedication to promoting inclusive growth and development across regions of Penang," he said during a press conference in Komtar on Monday (April 1).

Chow, who is Batu Kawan MP, said the new venue would also offer more parking space for participants and ease traffic congestion during the event.

Registration for the event is now open at www.penangmarathon.gov.my.
