Some 182,666 cases of travel restrictions abroad as of Feb 29

KUALA LUMPUR: As of Feb 29, a total of 182,666 cases of travel restrictions abroad have been enforced by the Inland Revenue Board (IRB), the Dewan Negara was told on Monday.

Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying said of the total, 171,571 cases involved individuals with income tax arrears, while 11,095 cases involved individuals with Real Property Gains Tax (RPGT) arrears.

"In general, before travel restrictions are enforced, the IRB will take preliminary actions against taxpayers with arrears by sending several reminder letters regarding the outstanding tax payment claims, issuing tax arrears notification emails, and contacting involved taxpayers.

"However, failure to settle tax arrears within the specified period will result in taxpayers facing travel restrictions abroad," she said when replying to a question from Senator Datin Ros Suryati Alang.

Lim said taxpayers can check their tax arrears status through the MyTax portal and the Malaysian Immigration Department website for travel restrictions imposed by other agencies. - Bernama
