Group of orphans in KK taken on shopping spree for new Hari Raya clothes

KOTA KINABALU: A group of orphans from around the city had a wonderful time buying new Hari Raya clothes during a shopping spree with the Chief Minister’s wife, Datin Seri Julia Salag, on Tuesday (Apr 2).

Around 100 children under the age of 12 were taken for the shopping trip at the Servay Hypermarket in Likas near here, where they were each allowed to purchase clothes worth RM200.

“We are glad to be part of this programme to bring joy to these children ahead of the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations,” Julia said.

The programme was organised by Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah Wanita together with Kim Teck Cheong (KTC) Consolidated Bhd.

Julia urged other agencies, non-governmental organisations and corporate bodies to also come forward and give alms and show kindness to those in need.

She also thanked the organisers for making this possible for the children.

“We must all take proactive measures to fulfil our corporate social responsibilities in the community,” she said, adding that these practices help those in need and create a caring and loving society.

In view of the current hot weather, Julia reminded parents to be more alert of their children’s health conditions, and advised children to refrain from playing with fireworks during this Hari Raya season for safety reasons.

Those driving back to their hometowns must abide by road regulations and stay safe throughout the journey, she added.
