Dr Akmal to return to KL tomorrow, says Umno Youth secretary

PETALING JAYA: Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh will be returning to Kuala Lumpur on Saturday (April 6), says the party wing’s secretary Hafiz Ariffin.

According to Hafiz, the Merlimau assemblyman is presently in Sabah to attend Umno’s Kembara Ramadan programme in Beaufort, Sabah.

“It’s our yearly programme to meet division leaders and Umno Youth members in conjunction with Ramadan.

“He will be back tomorrow (April 6) in the afternoon,” said Hafiz.

However, Hafiz said Dr Muhamad Akmal’s flight back to Kuala Lumpur is yet to be finalised.

Dr Muhamad Akmal had said he would be continuing with his programme in Beaufort, Sabah after being released by the police.

At the same time, Hafiz also said Dr Muhamad Akmal may not give his statement at the Dang Wangi police headquarters on Saturday (April 6) as scheduled.

“Because he has already given his statement at the Kota Kinabalu police headquarters,” added Hafiz.

He was released at around 12.15pm after giving his statement at the Kota Kinabalu police headquarters.

Earlier today, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the police received two police reports against Dr Muhamad Akmal and the case is now being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act.

“Investigation papers will be referred to the Attorney General’s Chambers after the probe is completed,” added Razarudin.

Dr Muhamad Akmal’s arrest came following criticisms over a picture uploaded on social media showing him wielding a sword.

Dr Muhamad Akmal has been calling for action and a boycott against KK Super Mart over the controversial socks issue.
