PETALING JAYA: All races should unite and work towards a common goal if they wish to see Selangor becoming a stronger state, says Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.

Sultan Sharafuddin also urged all Malaysians to be more tolerant of one another in order to preserve social harmony in Selangor.

“If Selangor, which consists of multiracial and multireligious people, wants to be more developed and progressive, then cooperation among all races must be preserved and improved.

“Avoid being prejudiced with one another, and let’s cultivate tolerance in order to preserve societal harmony in Selangor,” said the Selangor Ruler’s Royal Address when officiating the Damansara Perdana Mosque on Friday (April 5).

His Royal Highness said disunity and division among the people will hinder a nation’s progress and achievements.

“Therefore, I urge all political leaders to play their respective roles in uniting locals of various races and religions.

“Stop worsening the situation by raising issues that could cause division among the people,” said the Selangor Ruler.

His Royal Highness also said political leaders should brainstorm the best approaches to foster unity among the people.

“For example, use social media platforms to foster respect and understanding among the people to ensure social harmony in the country,” said the Selangor Ruler.

At the same time, His Royal Highness prayed for Muslims in Selangor to avoid bad traits that are prohibited by Islam, such as cheating, complaining, and slander.

“We don’t want these bad attitudes to spread, especially on social media,” added the Selangor Ruler.

According to the Selangor Ruler, there are many individuals claiming to be religious who have tried to influence the people by presenting their arguments and opinions on religious issues.

“They are using religion, position and popularity to gain support in society, and they are willing to see Muslims divided.

“Therefore, I would like to advise all Muslims to always be vigilant and wise in differentiating those who are true religious scholars and those who are using religion for personal gain,” said the Selangor Ruler.

Earlier, the Selangor Sultan said he was proud and touched to see unity and cooperation among Malay Muslims in the state, especially during the fasting month.

“I hope the Malays will continue choosing unity and strengthen harmony to show the strength of the race and religion,” added the Selangor Sultan.

Meanwhile, the Selangor Ruler invited all Muslims to do more charitable deeds at the end of the fasting month and live their lives based on the teachings of the Quran.

“On this occasion, the Tengku Permaisuri Selangor and I would like to wish Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri, maaf zahir dan batin to everyone in Selangor,” added the Selangor Ruler.
