KUALA LUMPUR: Inform the police if you are leaving your home for the holidays even if you do not celebrate Hari Raya so that patrols can be sent to your housing area," says Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.
"To all that wish to return to their hometowns please inform their nearest police station or through the Volunteer Smartphone Patrol (VSP) app that the home will be empty, so we could patrol the housing area.
"And this is not only for those that are celebrating Aidilfitri, the non-muslims are also encouraged to do so.
"If you plan on leaving your home (empty) please inform us," he said when met on Monday (April 8) at the Police Training Centre here.
Speaking on the latest iteration of Ops Selamat, which begins Monday (April 8), he said that the focus is on reducing accidents to a minimum and ensuring smooth traffic flow.
"We are maintaining our approach of total enforcement and delivery service as in previous years. What is important to me is that our focus during this campaign is on educating," he said, emphasising on good driving behaviours.
He added that around 5,000 policemen have been deployed for Ops Selamat.
Speaking on the video of illegal u-turns at the Raub bypass on Central Spine Road due to congestion, he said that the police were aware of the heavy traffic there.

"We are also monitoring hotspots and blackspots. But when the volume is high, traffic jams will happen.
"We do not want to look for offences but rather ease everyone’s travel. Perhaps we will close that u-turn section," he said.
Earlier in the day, Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) deputy director Datuk Mohd Nasri Omar was appointed once again as the department’s acting director.
Outgoing JSPT director Comm Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri, who had officially concluded his 38 years of service, officially handed over command to his deputy on Monday during a ceremony at the Police Training Centre (Pulapol) here.
The IGP, when asked if candidates have been identified to take over as the JSPT director, said that prospective names will be discussed, including with the Home Minister.
"We will also discuss candidates for the Penang police chief as well," he said.
