Man accepts job offer but ends up poorer by RM220,000

A MAN lost more than RM220,000 to an online job scam, Sinar Harian reported.

The victim was first drawn to the “job offer” by a message he had received from an unknown phone number, said Segamat OCPD Supt Ahmad Zamry Marinsah.

The victim was told to download an app named Acs Shop and instructed to make purchases on the app to raise sellers’ ratings.

In exchange, he would receive a commission based on sales of the goods, according to Supt Ahmad Zamry.

From January to March, the victim completed 20 tasks at a total of RM228,494, with the money transferred to 16 bank accounts via 20 transactions.

The victim only later realised he had been duped and lodged a police report.

Supt Ahmad Zamry reminded the public, particularly retirees, to exercise great caution when encountering such job offers online or via social media.

> This Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration has added significance for Ryan Bakery, the influencer who is now an actor and singer, and his wife Elyia Ibrahim, Berita Harian reported.

Ryan Bakery said they had celebrated Raya as husband and wife last year, but this time, as the parents of Ryan Ezra, who was born in January, the experience was indeed different.

“Particularly when it came to the search for Raya clothing,” said the proud father, adding that they wore matching maroon outfits.

He added that they spent the first day of Raya at his wife’s hometown in Melaka before returning to his in Pahang.

“I wanted to introduce my son to my relatives and collect some duit raya for him,” said Ryan Bakery, who is set to release a new song titled B40.
