JOHOR BARU: Police, along with the Fire and Rescue Department, have launched a search and rescue operation after a man supposedly fell from a bridge into Sungai Danga here.
Johor Baru North OCPD Asst Comm Balveer Singh said police received a call from a member of the public who saw a man fall from the Iskandar Sultan highway bridge here at 4.17am on Friday (April 12).
“Upon receiving the information, a search and rescue operation was launched with 21 policemen from the Johor Baru North police station and 10 firemen from the Larkin Fire and Rescue Department.
“The search radius was also expanded from the location the victim was believed to have fallen from, to the Kampung Sungai Melayu estuary, which is about 4km away,” he said in a statement.
ACP Balveer, who led the operation, added that the search for the man resumed at 7am on Sunday morning (April 13) after it was put on pause at about 7pm on Friday.
“We urge those who have any information about the case to reach out to us,” he said, adding that they could reach out to the Johor Baru North police headquarters at 07-55631222.
Meanwhile, when contacted, Larkin Fire and Rescue Department station chief Suhaimi Abdul Jamal said that the identity of the victim has yet to be confirmed.
“We do not know the victim's identity at the moment. Whatever we know now is based on the information given by the witness.
“We only have a pair of slippers that are believed to belong to the victim,” he said.
