ISKANDAR PUTERI: Johor has proposed the establishment of an elevated Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) system to the Federal Government.

Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said the proposal had received the consent of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia and Johor Regent Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim.

“The proposal for the elevated ART has been handed over to the Federal Government and they will fine-tune it.

“We need multiple transportation options. We are also working with Handal Indah to ensure a seamless connection for Johoreans,” he said in a press conference after the inaugural ceremony of the first cross-border electric bus here on Tuesday (April 16).

Onn Hafiz said this was one of the steps the state government was taking to address congestion issues in Johor, especially after the Rapid Transit Link (RTS) between Johor Baru and Singapore had been completed.

“This morning, I also monitored congestion around Jalan Skudai, Perling and Pasir Gudang interchange.

“We need to look into ways to ease congestion in Johor to ensure the comfort of Johoreans,” he said.
