Johor to become most economically developed state, says Anwar

JOHOR BARU: Johor is set to become the most economically developed state in the country with the help of two high-impact projects, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Prime Minister said the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) and Special Financial Zone (SFZ) in Forest City would boost the state’s economic growth.

“Johor’s economic growth is also expected to exceed that of other states in the next one to two years,” he said after attending the Aidilfitri Madani 2024 celebration, which kicked off at Angsana Johor Baru Mall here on Thursday (April 18).

Also present were Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, former Deputy Prime Minister Tun Musa Hitam and Johor MPs as well as assemblypersons.

Malaysia and Singapore signed an MOU to establish the JS-SEZ on Jan 11, almost three months after the 10th Singapore-Malaysia Leaders’ Retreat in October, when Anwar and his Singapore counterpart Lee Hsien Loong agreed to jointly develop the economic zone.
