Learn from the past, find ways to stay relevant for the future, Rafizi urges PKR members

SHAH ALAM: Learn the lessons of others and find effective ways to ensure PKR remains relevant for decades to come, says Rafizi Ramli (pic).

The deputy party president said now that PKR is part of the federal administration, it is time for the leadership to reevaluate crucial steps to ensure the survival of the party.

Rafizi said this is especially important as the country is heading for the 16th General Election (GE16) in about three years, adding that PKR must start working from now if it wants to remain in Putrajaya.

“Remember Kodak? It was the biggest (film) company for 100 years and every time new technology came out, Kodak dismissed it by saying things like those new products would not last long.

“As it turns out, it was Kodak itself that couldn’t last long to the point it went bankrupt. We must not allow this to happen to us.

“As we celebrate our 25th anniversary, I see this as the best time for us to evaluate everything we know and start looking for new ways to ensure there will be another 25 years for us.

“Many parties lost their power because they didn’t work on their strengths, weaknesses and all the complexities that come with the changing years,” the Economy Minister said in his speech during the PKR 25th Annual Convention at the Ideal Convention Centre here on Sunday (April 21).

With that in mind, Rafizi urged party leaders and members to embrace change while continuing to be creative in serving the public.

“From the beginning, I believe it was as early as 2010, we began dominating online platforms and ... used Facebook to spread our ceramah.

“But now, we are no longer dominant (on social media). Our opponents are the ones using the very same platforms to attack us and I urge everyone to reflect on this,” he added.

Commenting further on GE16 preparations, Rafizi told PKR leaders and members to start putting in the hours from today, saying that this would put the party in a good light among the people.
