Five-year-old girl in fatal fall from JB condo

JOHOR BARU: A five-year-old girl fell to her death at a condominium here on Tuesday (April 23).

Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat said police received a report that the victim was found unconscious on a sixth-floor ledge of the building at 6.30pm.

She is believed to have fallen from the 12th floor.

“The victim had been left alone by her guardian, who went to fetch another child from school," he said in a statement on Thursday (April 25).

ACP Raub said the victim was believed to have opened an unlocked door leading out into a corridor and climbed the wall before falling.

He said a medical officer from Hospital Sultanah Aminah confirmed that the child had died from severe injuries to her body and head.

The case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Children’s Act 2001.

Under this section, it is an offence for anyone responsible for the care of a child to “abandon, neglect or expose the said child to danger so as to cause him/her physical or emotional injury”.

It is learnt that the guardian, a 32-year-old housewife, was arrested and released on bail.
