KUALA LUMPUR: A woman broke down after being persistently harassed by loan sharks over her eldest son's alleged debts.
Retiree Lim Sook Fun, aged 64, tearfully spoke to a press conference called by MCA Public Services and Complaints Department head Datuk Seri Michael Chong at Wisma MCA here on Friday (April 26).
Lim said she had had enough of her 40-year-old son’s stubbornness after partially paying off his alleged debts twice before, last year and in 2022, to the tune of RM70,000.
"I am an old woman living off my retirement funds. I don’t have much to spare.
"I have given him so many chances but he refuses to change," she claimed as she broke down in tears.
Despite explaining to loan sharks that she had no contact with her eldest son for months, the harassment continued, she said.
The most recent incident occurred on Sunday (April 21) when loan sharks threw red paint at her house and neighbouring ones in Taman Intan Baiduri here.
A total of eight houses were affected.
"I don’t even know how much he owes. There could even be multiple groups that he borrowed from," she claimed.
Chong claimed loan sharks had come by Lim's house twice before, handing out flyers about her son around the neighbourhood on their first visit.
"Police reports on the April 21 incident have been lodged by several parties.
"I urged the neighbours that have not (done so yet) to do so," he said.
He added that CCTV cameras captured the incident and the footage had been forwarded to the police.
