KOTA BHARU: The dream of a teenage girl, Siti Zubaidah Zulkefli, 17, of Kampung Air Papan, Batu Melintang in Jeli to visit the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) was fulfilled on Friday (April 26), in conjunction with PETRONAS’ 50th anniversary.

Siti Zubaidah, who was diagnosed with bone cancer when she was 15, was welcomed by PETRONAS representatives under its PETRONAS 50 Dreams programme in a simple ceremony at the Sultan Ismail Petra Airport in Pengkalan Chepa here on Friday, ahead of her visit to KLCC on Saturday (April 27).

"I currently live with my uncle and aunt and their children as my mom Masitoh Mahmood passed away when I was five months’ old.

"Actually I couldn’t attend school last year as I was undergoing chemotherapy, causing me to be left behind in quite a few subjects,” she told reporters at the airport on Friday.

Siti Zubaidah will stay over at a five-star hotel tonight before she is taken to visit Suria KLCC, Aquaria and the 86th-floor observation deck of KLCC on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Petronas East Coast Region Office general manager M Ahmad Shazly Ramli expressed hope that what little the company was doing would help bring cheer and relieve the burden borne by Siti Zubaidah and her family.

"We have also prepared transport to take Siti Zubaidah to and from her home to the Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital in Kubang Krian for treatment for two years.

"We also have gifted her the smartphone she wanted so that she could take photos of her visit to KLCC,” he added.- Bernama
