AN actor who appeared in the classic movie, Ali Baba Bujang Lapok, has been suffering from asthma and prostate cancer for the past four years, Berita Harian reported.
In the 1961 black-and-white movie, Kadir Mamat, 92, was the first thief who was splashed with hot oil by the character played by Datuk Sarimah Ahmad.
Yayasan Kebajikan Artis Tanahair handed over RM12,260 to him, collected via public donations since February.
“Previously, we gave him a wheelchair,” said foundation president DJ Dave.
Foundation members also visit Kadir and his wife Hasmah Yusof in Kelantan once in a while, he added. The couple have no children.
The donations, said Dave, had come from Malaysians of all races.
> Despite his buff physique, Nor Syahmizi Safuan appears to have mastered the “delicate” art of making pancakes featuring characters that children love, Harian Metro reported.
His pancakes, which he makes from his stall in Bandar Hilir, Melaka, feature characters such as Spider-Man, Pikachu, Cinnamoroll and Rilakkuma.
Nor Syahmizi, 31, gained public attention when he uploaded a video on TikTok of himself making pancakes of different shapes in an attempt to promote his business.
“My wife gave me the idea of selling these kinds of pancakes, which are popular in Thailand. Furthermore, I am good at drawing.
“I have been interested in art since I was a kid,” he said.
His wife Anis Farahin Roslin, 28, is giving him a helping hand at the stall.
Nor Syahmizi said many customers visited his stall after seeing the video.
“Most of them said the pancakes are tasty,” said the father of one, who is also a fitness instructor.
Despite the success of the business, he isn’t giving up his day job yet.
The pancake stall is open at night from Fridays to Sundays.
