Fire destroys 22 squatter houses in Sandakan


KOTA KINABALU: A fire destroyed 22 squatter houses at Kampung Sebelah Kiriman Tun Ma in Sandakan on Wednesday evening (May 1).

According to a statement from the Fire and Rescue Services Department, 14 men were dispatched to the scene after receiving a distress call at 4:07 p.m.

“Firemen, led by operations commander Rosemidian Majid, managed to put the fire under control at 4.41pm,” the statement said, adding that no casualties were reported.

The firemen were assisted by 13 policemen, eight personnel from the Malaysian Civil Defence Department, two from Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd, and one each from the Welfare Department and National Security Council.
