KKB polls: Ramasamy's rancour stems from being dropped as election candidate, says Loke

HULU SELANGOR: Former Penang deputy chief minister II P. Ramasamy is holding a grudge against DAP because he was not chosen as a candidate in last year's state polls, says DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke.

He criticised Ramasamy for urging the people of Kuala Kubu Baharu not to vote for Pakatan Harapan’s candidate in next week's by-election.

“He said don’t vote for Pakatan, but what is his alternative? He has no alternative and this means that he is politicking based on a grudge.

“He has vendetta against DAP and Pakatan because he was not chosen as a candidate,” Loke told reporters after a walkabout in Kuala Kubu Baharu on Wednesday (May 1) morning.

Loke said Ramasamy is free to issue any statements, but Malaysians would be wise enough to decide who to vote for in the by-election.

“Ramasamy does not dare to publicly declare which candidate he supports. He is directionless. If we follow a directionless leader, we will be lost," he added.

In August, Ramasamy was among seven incumbents dropped as candidates in the state election. He subsequently resigned from the party.

He currently heads the United for the Rights of Malaysians party (Urimai) which is urging Indian voters to snub Pakatan in Kuala Kubu Baharu.

Ramasamy had previously said that Indian support will be tested in the constituency and urged Indian voters to demand better treatment from the government.

The by-election will be held on May 11, with early voting on Tuesday (May 7). The seat fell vacant following the demise of assemblyman Lee Kee Hiong, 58, on March 21.

It will see a four-cornered fight involving Pakatan, Perikatan Nasional, Parti Rakyat Malaysia and an Independent.
