Flat residents horrified after finding 20 dogs poisoned in Seremban housing area

SEREMBAN: Animal lovers at the Taman Seri Amber flats near here were left outraged after the carcasses of 20 stray dogs were found in the street after being allegedly poisoned.

One resident, S.L. Liew, said that it was a crime to do so, so he lodged a police report on Wednesday (May 1), expressing hope that the matter would be investigated.

"Some of the dogs were just pups. This has to be one of the saddest days of my life," she said, adding that she was alerted to the killings by a neighbour.

She said although these were street dogs, no one had the right to poison them to death.

"Disliking dogs does not give one the license to kill them," she said, adding that one pup survived.

News of the killings had also gone viral on social media, with many netizens condemning it.

They expressed grief over the killings, with some reminding the perpetrators of karma.

"Life will teach the person(s) who committed this cruel act on innocent animals a lesson he will never forget.

"Every action will have consequences," said one.

Some suggested that the authorities should view CCTV recordings in the area to nab the culprits.

When contacted, Lobak assemblyman Chew Seh Yong said that provided the majority of the residents agree, a lot near the neighbourhood could be turned into a temporary shelter for the remaining street dogs as a temporary measure.

He said one of the conditions was that the lot could not house more than 10 dogs.

"Those keen to look after the street dogs will have to get them neutered and then apply for a license from the local council.

"They need to form a committee and take care of the dogs," he said, adding that other shelters in the city were full and could not take in more dogs.
