SEREMBAN: The Sessions Court here issued an arrest warrant against a 42-year-old mother who failed to attend proceedings related to a charge of neglecting her three-year-old daughter which eventually led to her death.
Judge Meor Sulaiman Ahmad Tarmizi agreed to an application by deputy public prosecutor Syamimi Farhana Muhammad A. Aziz after Noraini Haron failed to show up even after the court stood down for almost half an hour.
Syamimi Farhana made the application after the court was informed that Noraini's bailor was also absent.
"An arrest warrant is hereby issued for the second accused (Noraini), ruled Meor Sulaiman.
He then fixed June 4 for next mention.
Noraini and her boyfriend Mohd Khairul Shamsua Israk, 38, had on April 1 pleaded guilty to the charge.
The duo was charged with committing the offence from March 18 to 24 between noon and 6.45pm at a house in Port Dickson.
However, they were not sentenced on the same day as the forensic report was not ready.
The court then set bail at RM20,000 each with one surety. Both were unrepresented.
Noraini posted bail while Mohd Khairul was unable to raise the amount.
Mohd Khairul, who worked as a workshop assistant has six children of his own while Noraini, who was unemployed, has two other children.
On March 28, Port Dickson OCPD Supt Aidi Sham Mohamed said police had received a report from the district hospital four days earlier on the incident.
According to the report, the victim was in critical condition after falling out of a van.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the incident took place at 8.30pm on March 15, when Mohd Khairul opened the van door after he stopped outside a shop.
The child sustained bruises on several parts of her body and was pronounced dead at the Tuanku Ja'afar Hospital here on March 26.
Aidi Sham said Mohd Khairul had tested negative for drugs and had three previous cases in his criminal record.
