PUTRAJAYA: Details of the salary increase for the 1.6 million civil servants in the country will be announced during the tabling of Budget 2025 in October, says Fahmi Fadzil.
The government spokesman said the salary increase of more than 13% announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim clearly demonstrated the government’s commitment to civil servants.
“The Prime Minister’s announcement is very positive. I believe this is what the workers have been fighting for and we should embrace it,” he told reporters after attending the national Labour Day celebration here yesterday.
Anwar, in his speech at the event, announced that civil servants will enjoy a salary hike of more than 13% starting December this year, touted as the highest increase in the nation’s history, costing over RM10bil annually.
Fahmi, who is also Communications Minister, said that such an increase is only possible as a result of the better management and governance practised by the unity government, especially its efforts to combat corruption, Bernama reported.
He said the Prime Minister also invited all 16.5 million workers in Malaysia to join in the fight against corruption because the money that can be saved should be returned to the people.
Public Service Department director-general Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz urged all civil servants to increase their productivity and efficiency in delivering services to the people, in line with the Prime Minister’s announcement of the salary increase for civil service workers.
He said the announcement needs to be reciprocated by the delivery of better services that meet the needs of the people.
“Personally, this is something very good for civil servants, due to the concern of the government led by the Prime Minister.
“We have had no (salary) revision for more than 12 years,” the director-general told Bernama after attending the Labour Day celebration.
