Allegations of excessive debts against Khairul are false, says Azmin

HULU SELANGOR: Allegations that Perikatan Nasional candidate Khairul Azhari Saut is entangled with exorbitant debts from loan sharks are false, says Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali.

The coalition’s Kuala Kubu Baharu election director said all potential candidates for Perikatan were subject to a background check.

“It’s not true. He has never applied for anything from loan sharks. It’s false,” he said in an interview on Friday (May 3).

“It is not right to suggest that he has accumulated debts from loan sharks,” said Azmin, who is also the Selangor Bersatu chief.

This comes after Khairul deflected questions about allegations that he owed money to loan sharks ahead of the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election.

"That's a personal matter.

I prefer to concentrate on the by-election and the issues that affect our community," he told reporters during a walkabout in Kerling early Friday morning.

On Thursday (May 2), it was reported that a post on X (formerly Twitter) had alleged that Khairul owed almost RM40,000 to loan sharks and went on to question his suitability as a candidate.
