Sungkai plane crash: Both survivors identified


IPOH: The two survivors from the Cessna 172 (9M-ADA) training aircraft that crashed in an oil palm plantation in Besout 2 Tambahan plantation, Sungkai, have been identified as flight instructor Captain Shahrul Imran Surea, 26, and trainee Ho Jia Lee, 20.

Perak police chief Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said Shahrul Imran, who is from Kuala Lumpur, is believed to have broken his leg while Ho, who lives in Perak, has an injury on the right side of her face.

"The plane is from Syarikat Layang-Layang Aerospace Sdn Bhd, based in Ipoh.

"The plane was flying from Ipoh to Tg Karang at 7.59am Saturday (May 4) for flight training and turned back to Ipoh before crashing at 9.30am," he said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Perak Fire and Rescue Department director, Sayani Saidon said the two victims were rescued from the crash site.

"We received an emergency call at 9.46am and a team from the Slim River fire station with the help of the Bidor fire station were deployed to the scene about 20km off the main road," he said. – Bernama
