KKB polls: Early voting centres closed


HULU SELANGOR: The early voting process for the Kuala Kubu Baharu state by-election has concluded, with two polling centres closed at 5pm.

The two early voting centres located at the multi-purpose hall of the Royal Malaysian Police College and the 4th Infantry Division of the Royal Signals Regiment, opened simultaneously at 8am on Tuesday (May 7).

It involved 625 police and 238 military personnel and their spouses.

According to the Election Commission (EC), turnout for early voting was 96% at 3pm.

EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Salleh, as well as Pakatan Harapan candidate Pang Sock Tao and Perikatan Nasional candidate Khairul Azhari Saut were also spotted monitoring the process at the two centres.

The by-election is a four-cornered fight between Pang, Khairul Azhari, Parti Rakyat Malaysia's Hafizah Zainuddin and Independent Nyau Ke Xin.

It is being held following the death of the incumbent Lee Kee Hiong, 58, on March 21.

Breaking barriers, building bots

The constituency has 40,226 registered voters.

The EC has set May 11 as the polling day, with 18 polling centres with 74 channels to be open from 8am until 6pm, except for the polling centre at Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina Bukit Fraser which will close at 2pm. – Bernama
