Ehailing driver hurt by falling tree eligible for Socso claims

PETALING JAYA: The ehailing driver who was injured when a tree fell along Jalan Sultan Ismail during a thunderstorm is eligible to claim temporary disability benefits under the Social Security Organisation (Socso).

In a statement yesterday, Socso quoted Human Resources Minister Steven Sim saying that 26-year-old Abdul Hayyi Al Hakimi Nazli is eligible to claim the benefits because he is a Socso contributor.

“Abdul Hayyi was injured on the head, chest and arms and received treatment at Hospital Kuala Lumpur during the incident.

“The victim, who had just gotten married, is eligible for temporary disability benefits under the Social Security for Self-Employed Workers Scheme, which pays RM41.33 per day.

“Abdul Hayyi is also eligible to apply for medical and rehabilitation treatment benefits, as well as permanent disability benefits should he be disabled permanently,” Sim said.

He visited Abdul Hayyi at his home on Wednesday to deliver Socso contributions.
