First date shocker: Woman 'jilted' as beau runs from the cops

MELAKA: A 26-year-old woman from Telok Gong here who went on a first date with a man ended up in a police chase and "jilted" by the roadside.

Alor Gajah OCPD Supt Ashari Abdul Samah said in the 9.30pm incident on Thursday (May 9), a patrol car spotted the couple in a car at a forest reserve in Masjid Tanah here.

He said the cop signalled the car to stop but the 30-year-old man who was driving decided to drive off and escape before a high-speed chase ensued.

"The driver then lost control and his car which plunged into the riverbank at Paya Lebar.

"The man abandoned the woman at the scene and swam across the river in his bid to flee from my men," Supt Ashari said on Friday (May 10).

He said the couple's car almost hit a motorcycle when making their escape.

He said the woman who was unhurt in the incident was rescued by his men and sent to her relatives' house in Teluk Gong here.

Supt Ashari added that the man had three previous police records relating to drug abuse.

He said the woman revealed that she went out with the man for the first time after getting to know him via online and regretted his action of abandoning her.

Supt Ashari said the woman also told police that both of them were afraid of being accused of khalwat (close proximity) when the patrol car sighted them before they sped off, adding that no arrest had been made over the incident.
