PUPILS from SJK(T) Jalan Yahya Awal in Johor Baru won a national-level innovation in teaching competition, Makkal Osai reported. The event, TheEdu@Innovate competition, was organised by the Sultan Idris Education University in Tanjung Malim on May 4.

It focused on technology-based innovations to help improve teaching and learning in schools.

A group of pupils from the school took home the top prize, winning RM1,800 and a gold medal, while a second group won another gold medal.

> A child was killed and two others injured when a homemade explosive they had mistaken for a ball exploded in the West Bengal state of India, Malaysia Nanban reported.

Neighbours who heard the explosion rushed the victims to a hospital, but the child was declared dead, while two others were being treated.

The Bharatiya Janata Party, which is looking to topple the Congress-led government in the state, did not wait long to turn the issue into political mileage, blaming the Congress party for the explosion. However, a Congress spokesman said there was nothing political in the tragic incident, adding that it was being investigated.
