South Korean man pleads not guilty to using forged documents in Kota Kinabalu


KOTA KINABALU: A South Korean claimed trial for using a forged document as genuine papers for construction work at the Magistrate’s Court here on Friday (May 10).

Lee Chang Wan, 33, pleaded not guilty to the charge before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie.

The case was prosecuted by Insp Suzie @Stephanie Kupit, while the accused was represented by lawyer Gerard Chia.

The accused was said to have used a fake amended subcontract agreement between Hyundai Engineering Sdn Bhd and Budiwan Sdn Bhd for reinforcement piling work.

He was accused of committing the offence at a company in the Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park (KKIP) in Sepanggar here on Sept 22 last year.

The accused is charged under Section 471 of the Penal Code for forgery and punishable under Section 465 of the same law.

The court fixed June 10 for case management and allowed Lee to be released on a RM8,000 bail, with two local sureties.

Lee was also granted by the court to have his passport returned to allow him to renew his work permit.

The accused was, however ordered to hand over the passport to the court after the renewal, pending the case’s disposal.
