PUTRAJAYA: Three foreign men have been detained for using fake identity cards and identity cards of other people.
National Registration Department Investigations and Enforcement deputy director Mohamad Naaim Mat Noor said the three were detained at Pulau Indah on Friday (May 10).
"We monitored the three suspects aged between 19 and 50 for about three weeks before we detained them.
"Based on our investigations, these suspects were using identification cards that did not belong to them as well as fake identity cards for between two and six months," he said when contacted on Friday.
He said further checks revealed the suspects used these documents to apply for jobs and find housing in Malaysia.
"The three suspects are all from the Philippines.
"Some of the identification documents used were borrowed from their friends while the fake documents were purchased from an agent for RM500," he said.
He said the three suspects would be taken to the Klang Magistrate’s Court on Friday to be charged under Rule 25(1)(e) of the National Registration Regulations 1990.
"The suspects face a maximum three years jail or a maximum RM20,000 fine or both if convicted," he said.
He advised the public to refrain from allowing others to use their own identification documents for any reason.
