PONTIAN: A total of RM10mil has been allocated by the Johor government to repair and upgrade all six national parks in the state starting this year, says state executive councillor Ling Tian Soon (pic).
The Johor health and environmental committee chairman added that all of the repair work started this year and is expected to be completed before the year 2026, in line with Visit Johor Year 2026 (VJY2026).
"We wanted to turn all six into a tourism attraction as part of our preparation to welcome VJY2026 while at the same time preserving the natural gifts that we have.
"We also hope to be able to get help from local influencers to promote the beauty of Johor in their social media accounts," he said when met after conducting a working visit to the Pulau Kukup National Park here on Saturday (May 11).
Ling added that the Pulau Kukup National Park will be reopened to the public starting on May 17, after it was closed down during the pandemic.
"The closure started in 2020 due to the movement control order; after that, there were reports of damage to some of the facilities, which resulted in further closure to give way to repair work.
"The state government has also allocated RM600,000 to build a temporary jetty using a floating pontoon, while the Iskandar Regional Development Authority (Irda) has allocated RM2.4mil to upgrade all the reported damaged facilities on the 1.6km walkway, including the pavilion.
"The state has also received RM20mil from the Tourism, Arts, and Culture Ministry to build a new jetty as the current structure is deemed unsafe; the development is expected to start this year and will be completed in 2026," he shared.
