KKB by-election: IGP says two arrests made, 12 reports lodged

HULU SELANGOR: A total of 12 police reports have been lodged during the the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election campaign, says Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.

He added at a press conference at the Hulu Selangor district police headquarters that two arrests were made in the period from April 27 to Saturday (May 11).

On the arrests, Razarudin said that the two who were arrested have already been charged in court for displaying images of His Majesty, King of Malaysia as part of the campaign.

“The campaign has been peaceful,” he told reporters at the district police headquarters here on Saturday (May 11).

Razarudin said more than 190 permits have been issued for campaigning here.

“So far, there have been no reports of quarters campaigning without a permit,” he said.

The Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election sees a four-cornered fight between Pakatan Harapan, Perikatan Nasional, Parti Rakyat Malaysia and an Independent.

On April 4, the Election Commission (EC) set May 11 as polling day for the Kuala Kubu Baru by-election, with nomination and early voting on April 27 and May 7, respectively.

The seat became vacant following the death of its incumbent Lee Kee Hiong from DAP on March 21.

Lee, 58, who had been the Kuala Kubu Baru assemblyman under the Hulu Selangor parliamentary constituency since 2013, had battled cancer for several years.

The by-election is the seventh to be held after the 15th General Election (GE15) in 2022.
