KKB polls: Pakatan win epitomises spirit of unity government, says Umno president

KUALA LUMPUR: Pakatan Harapan’s victory in the Kuala Kubu Bharu by-election shows the spirit of the unity government, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

"Congratulations to the Pakatan candidate (Pang Sock Tao) and DAP on their win in the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election.

“I want to especially thank the Barisan Nasional and Umno machinery as this win showed the spirit of togetherness among the unity government component parties,” said the Umno president after the party’s 78th anniversary celebration at its headquarters here on Saturday (May 11).

"The DAP leadership helped Barisan candidates in by-elections before. This is the first time we have returned the favour and supported a DAP candidate. It is only right to repay their kindness.

"If we have the resilience to stay together... the Opposition will not be able to break the unity of this government," said Ahmad Zahid, who is also Deputy Prime Minister.

Pang, who is from DAP, won the Kuala Kubu Bharu state by-election on Saturday with a majority of 3,869 votes, retaining the seat.

According to the Election Commission, Pang polled 14,000 votes against Perikatan's Khairul Azhari Saut's 10,131.

Parti Rakyat Malaysia's Hafizah Zainudin and Independent candidate Nyau Ke Xin lost their deposits after garnering 152 and 188 votes, respectively.
